Environment and Conservation
Every story on Tennessee’s Wild Side promotes the proper enjoyment of outdoor life in Tennessee. But the stories highlighted on this page are even more tightly woven into the theme of conserving our environment. These are the stories about endangered species, land management, and people who go out of their way to be good stewards of our habitat.
Aquatic Nuisance Species
Tennessee is blessed with some of the most bountiful bodies of water in the country. Game fish are abundant - from bass to brook trout, walleye to redeye. But there are some fish swimming our waters that are becoming a real problem. Among them are fish believed to be escapees from the fish farms of a neighboring state. They are silver carp, new to our waters but already the number one nuisance fish in Tennessee. As their numbers quickly grow, the danger potential for anglers and recreational boaters grows as well. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs shows us how the TWRA is trying to do something about that.
