Blaser Rifles

Pygmy Madtom

From Episode 1811

Noturus stanauli, is probably not a name of any species of aquatic life that any Tennessean would recognize. But Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs knows one when he sees one! This tiny little catfish exists in only two rivers on earth, and both are in Tennessee; The Duck and The Clinch Rivers. With the help of biologists, Alan will take viewers to the bottom of the Clinch River in East Tennessee for a look at something very rare. But thanks to efforts from TWRA, Conservation Fisheries, and biologists from The University of Alabama, this little two-inch wonder is on the comeback.

You may learn more about the efforts of Conservation Fisheries, Inc by visiting their web page.

And for anyone “crazy” about Madtoms, check out the US Fish and Wildlife Service page dedicated to this endangered species of catfish.
