President's Island

From Episode 304

A deer on President’s Island

It’s every hunter’s greatest dream: the opportunity to bag the big one. So it’s no surprise that when TWRA opened up President’s Island in Memphis to bow hunters, thousands of people jumped at the chance to bow hunt buck nine points or better. Only 30 people were selected and Wild Side Host Bill Cody got to join them at a place that could best be described as “hunter’s heaven.” President’s Island is in the middle of the Mississippi River near downtown Memphis. The deer here are rarely hunted since they live on a Wildlife Management Area. TWRA officers believe the island’s ample vegetation plays a big role in the quality of the deer. Hunters like Paul Peoples wouldn’t miss this opportunity for the world. In fact, Paul was hunting on his 17th wedding anniversary. The men know that this might be the last time they’ll get to participate in the hunt, because once word gets out, even more people are likely to apply. If you’re ready to grab your bow and head to President’s Island, you can go to the TWRA website at www.tnwildlife.org to learn more.
