Hiwassee River
We seem to have an abundance of “near heaven” places in Tennessee. Ranking near the top of that list for those who enjoy recreational opportunities on the water is the Hiwassee River. Situated in southeast Tennessee, the Hiwassee is a clear, cold stream with a bounty of beautiful trout for anglers, picture-book scenery for sightseers, and exciting river riding for the adventurous.
Wild Side Guide Richard Simms spends a day on the Hiwassee with avid trout fisherman Les Kirk as they marvel in nature’s beauty, engage in a little friendly competition, and exchange some light-hearted observations about each other’s fishing prowess.
Visit www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/hiwassee for a great description of the river and surrounding area, including driving directions.

Remember that water generation schedules on the Hiawassee will vary. And it really is important to know them because people have drowned when they’ve been caught unprepared by the rising water. TVA generation schedules are updated every day at 4pm (ET). The TVA river information web site is www.lakeinfo.tva.gov or you can call toll-free, 1-800-238-2264.
