Spotfin Chub
If you’ve ever been to a homecoming celebration you know how exciting and fun they can be. We went to a homecoming of sorts recently, one involving an endangered fish that had disappeared from its home 80 years ago.
The Spotfin Chub is a silvery sliver of a minnow that was forced from its home in the Cherokee National Forest by a combination of man and nature. Logging and wildfires caused erosion along the banks of the Tellico River, destroying the fish’s natural habitat.
Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs tells us that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, together with other groups, is helping to return the Spotfin Chub to the clear, cold, rushing mountain waters where it belongs.
