Whites Creek Cleanup
Water quality is something we all depend on. Yet our rivers and lakes are being used as dumping grounds for all kinds of waste. Wild Side Guide Holly Sherwin shows us how one community in the Whites Creek area of Davidson County (Nashville) dedicated itself to cleaning up one small stretch of water. The pile of trash they found is stark evidence of the lack of pride we still have in keeping our waterways clear and clean.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency supports efforts to keep our lakes, rivers, and streams clean because of the importance of good habitat for aquatic and land-based wildlife. If you are interested in organizing a river cleanup or stream restoration project, TWRA has grant money available to help offset the cost. Visit TWRA’s web site at www.tnwildlife.org for more about what the agency is doing to help our environment.
If you want to volunteer for a day of river maintenance, the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association has scheduled clean-ups for almost every month of the year. Visit the TSRA web site at www.paddletsra.org for more information.
