Cumberland River

From Episode 704

Wild Side Guide Janet Ivey takes a look at one of our most important liquid assets. Millions of people drink it, businesses depend on it, boaters have fun on it and fishermen love what comes out of it.

The Cumberland River flows for 687 miles through forests, farms and cities and its watershed drains over 18 thousand square miles of Kentucky and Tennessee. The river has a major impact on our daily lives, but most of us tend to take it for granted. In this story, we take you to a lake so you can learn more about a river from the experts at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Cumberland River Compact.

Part of the mission of the TWRA is to “protect the habitat,” a responsibility that the agency takes seriously. Learn more about TWRA’s programs, policies and initiatives by visiting www.tnwildlife.org

To see how the Cumberland River Compact is improving water quality, visit the group’s website at www.cumberlandrivercompact.org.
