Wildlife Refuges
Here’s a story about some real Tennessee gems. Not the pretty ones you wear but some beautiful and useful habitat for wildlife. In fact, they’re often described as a string of pearls stretching from the Mississippi River to Middle Tennessee. They are wildlife refuges: sanctuaries for wildlife, viewing areas for the public, and a big help for hunters. Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs shows us how wildlife refuges help all of us.
There are almost 100 wildlife management areas across Tennessee varying in size from about 50 acres to over 600,000 acres. Learn more about them and see maps of each at www.tnwildlife.org.
That’s where you will also get the latest on hunting regulations across the state. Remember that while each is open to hunting and trapping, there are restrictions on these protected places. Access for public viewing can also be limited, depending on the location.
