Reelfoot Turtle Survey
Ever since the days of Noah and his legendary ark, man has been counting animals. Whether it’s two by two’s or surveys of a much greater magnitude, when it comes to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and its census of wildlife, counting animals is very important. The numbers can determine such things as population increases or decreases, loss of habitat and even overall land management practices for years to come. And while this counting might seem boring and monotonous, for some it’s much more than another day at work. No, it a passion for one college student, Brad Glorioso, and his professor, Vince Cobb. They’re helping the TWRA determine the overall health of the turtles at Reelfoot Lake. In the process, as Wild Side Guide Alan Griggs explains, they're helping shape the future of the hard shells and their habitat.
