Fishing Profile: Don Wirth
Outdoors writer Don Wirth has been published in a variety of magazines, from Bassmaster, to In-Fishermen, to Boys Life. But this Nashville man considers himself an angler first, and a writer second. Wild Side Guide Joey Monteleone joins Don on his boat at a private Middle Tennessee fishing hole for some tips on catching chilly weather bass. Don also provides insights on why anglers from outside Tennessee are envious of what our state has to offer in natural resources. Don has also co-authored the paperback “Bill Dances Fishing Tips” with Bill Dance. Its available at Amazon.com.
Quick Tip: If the bass are off the bank and suspended in the shallows and not very active, try attaching a suspending jerk bait to your line. The treble hooks are “nasty” and will secure a strike even if the bass doesnt take it in his mouth. Work the bait with a steady medium crank, pausing now and then on your retrieve. It will look like a wounded baitfish...that bass love!
